Buxton set to receive larger appliance (15/06/2024)

After what seems to have been a very long time, the Brigade was advised by CFA yesterday that our current Tanker 1 will be replaced with a larger appliance that is being cascaded down from Wallan Fire Brigade.

Wallan recently received a new 4,000lt four-wheel drive crewcab tanker (known as a 4.4C) to replace their 3,000lt (3.4C) tanker. That appliance, after some checks and a bit of polish, will now cascade to Buxton to replace our current 2,000lt single-cab appliance.

The allocation of a crewcab tanker with larger pumping capacity and carrying 50% more water is recognition of our growing community with more than twenty new houses being built in and around Buxton in recent years. It follows strong advocacy by past and current brigade management teams for CFA to keep up with the increasing risks in the area. It isn't a new appliance but it most definitely an improvement.

The 3.4C is expected to be available in two or three weeks. The 2.4D will remain at Buxton until members of the brigade complete the necessary training on the changeover appliance. That training is expected to take a week or so; brigade drivers will be out and about doing their familiarisation training and driving endorsements. Three members have completed their training already and we are grateful to Alexandra Fire Brigade for access to their tanker for that training.
