Fuel Reduction Burn at St Fillans Narbethong (25/03/2024)
Buxton Tanker 2 and three of our members spent Monday helping our Forest Fire Management Victoria colleagues conduct a fuel reduction burn at the St Fillans end of Narbethong. During the hotter part of the day, the crew was strategically located in the adjoining farmland to the north of the initial ignition line to respond to any spotting out of the burn area. This was an opportunity for the crew to discuss response strategies for a fire in the undulating heavily fuelled topography.
Later in the day, the crew was tasked with patrolling along the Marysville Road and Maroondah Highway. The crew said it was a very worthwhile experience and provided plenty of learning in a controlled environment.
