Recruits get initial Hands-on Training (02/06/2024)

New recruits from a number of brigades attended at Buxton Fire Station this morning to get their initial practical training as part of a General Firefighter block training course.

The recruits (some of whom are still in the process of being allocated their bushfire protective clothing) completed drills on radio operations, hose deployment, water delivery, and pump operations. This morning was one of three practical sessions offered, as part of the block course, to cover the mandatory practical drills and brigade familiarisation tasks in a group learning environment.

Ten members from Eildon, Marysville, Narbethong, and Buxton brigades are currently completing the block course which will provide all the theory and practical aspects of their recruit training over five weeks including practical drills and vehicle familiarisation activities. Facilitated by Alexandra Fire Brigades Group, the course is being delivered by GFF trainers and assessors from local brigades with the support of CFA District 12 Training.
