Trainee members qualify as Firefighters (24/06/2024)

After weeks of planning by Alexandra Fire Brigades Group and trainers from across the Group, yesterday saw the culmination of the block General Firefighter course run out of Buxton Fire Station. The block course comprised all the mandatory theory and practical aspects of the training, along with the dedicated sessions to cover the practical drills normally conducted at the members brigades. This format ensures participants are provided with a consistent level of training.

Seven of the trainees sat their theory assessment, at Buxton, last Thursday and finished their assessment yesterday. Being a volunteer organisation, it is inevitable that family and work commitments sometimes take priority and three of the initial starters had to drop out for various reasons. Two others, who couldn't make it yesterday, will be assessed at a later date.

The practical assessment comprises a number of drills and scenarios designed to test teamwork, safety, and knowledge of CFA protocols to ensure members can respond effectively.

The trainees that attended yesterday (from Eildon, Marysville, Narbethong, and Buxton brigades) are now qualified Bushfire Firefighters. We are grateful to the various members from Alexandra, Eildon, Buxton, Narbethong, and Taggerty brigades who assisted with the delivery over the past five or six weeks. In particular, thanks go to Nicki, Joan, and Darren who conducted the critical assessor roles.

Our congratulations go to Dean, Tameka, Wendy, Dannilee, Tommy, Andrew, and Max who completed the practical assessment yesterday.
