Brigades respond to Chimney Fire (10/06/2024)

Buxton, Marysville, and Narbethong brigades were responded to a report of a suspected chimney fire at a property in Buxton. Upon leaving the station, Buxton Tanker 1 requested that the Gas Monitoring equipment from Alexandra Fire Brigade be responded.

Upon arrival of the first appliance, the property occupants advised they had a concern that the solid fuel fireplace may have caused a fire in the flue or in the roofspace. They said they could smell an unusual burning odour but couldn't find any evidence of burning outside the fireplace. Crews investigated and, eventually, determined the situation was safe; a thermal imaging camera was used to investigate the roof space and ceiling area around the flue collar.

A final check of the property was made using the Gas Monitoring unit to check there was no build-up of combustion gases in the house.

It is always best to call Emergency000 and request the fire brigade to attend if you suspect that there is a fire.

Our brigades have access to specialist equipment such as thermal imaging cameras, gas monitoring equipment, and non-contact voltage detectors that we use to supplement our structural firefighting training.
