Wayne Briggs: Awards Presentations (20/04/2024)
CFA Life Membership
This evening Brigade Member Wayne Brigg was awarded CFA Life Membership in recognition of his ongoing commitment to CFA, over many years, through Lilydale and Buxton fire brigades.
In the Buxton history book, Wayne Briggs says “The fire brigade is something I have had a long association with” going on to say “as a 15-year-old, I was a member of the Lilydale Fire Brigade”. Wayne details his experience, at Lilydale, during the 1984 Ash Wednesday fires chasing a fire bug.
Wayne’s family purchased Fernacres, on Maroondah Highway near Williams Lane, around 1982. Later he and Kathy purchased a nearby property, Fernhaven at 1842 Maroondah Highway, in 1994 and they relocated to the property a year later. Having taken a break from CFA in 1985, Wayne continued his earlier association with CFA when he joined Buxton Fire Brigade in August of 1996.
Over the years, Wayne has been a regular responder with the brigade due to his availability during normal working hours. He has over 37 years of service to CFA; more than half of that time with the Buxton Fire Brigade.
He’s known for his wittiness and reliable attendance; he is always willing to help and always prepared to attend at the station to give a hand at the drop of a hat.
Not only protecting his community by attending fire around the District, Wayne has always contributed towards the improvement of the station. He was fundamental to the installation of the retaining wall near the hose rake and the recent replacement of the boundary fence. We are fortunate to have members, like Wayne, to advance health & safety at the station.
Without a doubt, his contribution to Buxton Fire Brigade has enhanced its standing in the community and has benefited the members of the brigade and wider community. Wayne was awarded Brigade Life Membership in October 2019 and tonight he is presented his 35 years CFA Service Medal along with CFA Life Membership.
Wayne Briggs is a worthy recipient of CFA Life Membership. Unfortunately, Wayne wasn’t able to attend and his CFA Life Membership Medal was accepted by Lieutenant Phil Ladson.
