Stephen McIntosh: Awards Presentations (20/04/2024)
CFA Life Membership
This evening Firefighter Stephen (Steve) McIntosh was recognised for his ongoing commitment to CFA, over many years, through his membership of the Buxton Fire Brigade.
Stephen McIntosh has been a member of the Buxton Fire Brigade since August 1986 and has racked up over 37 years of service with the brigade.
Steve grew up in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, around Reservoir, and worked as a mechanic – driver with Dysons Bus Services for many years. Steve and Di moved to their property in Mareeba Avenue in 1985.
For many years, up to his retirement, Steve was behind the wheel of the local 684 bus travelling between Eildon, Alexandra and Melbourne daily.
Steve served as the brigade’s 3rd Lieutenant from 2000 to 2002 and is highly valued as one of the Brigade’s long-term emergency response drivers. He still finds time to assist with the Brigade’s vehicle driving roster, as well as regularly attending brigade training, meetings and assisting with our Station Maintenance days and community events.
Since his retirement, Steve has also become more active being available during weekdays. He recently completed the Low Structure course which deals with fighting building fires without going inside the structure; this is a great benefit to the brigade especially considering his daytime availability.
Because of his involvement within the community providing transport links with Melbourne, Steve is well known in the Buxton and Triangle. He is a reliable and staunch supporter of the Brigade and all its activities.
Steve was awarded Brigade Life Membership in October 2019.

Second Clasp to the National Medal
Earlier in the evening, when Stephen was bestowed with CFA Life Membership, details of his history and dedicated service to the Buxton Fire Brigade and the wider Triangle area was outlined.
We have previously heard about Stephen McIntosh’s dedicated service to the Buxton Fire Brigade, and the wider Triangle area, when he was honoured with CFA Life Membership.
With over 37 years of service to the CFA at present, he received his 35 years CFA Service Medal in 2022. He was first awarded a National Medal in 2019 when he received the National Medal complete with First Clasp.
At that time, Steve was short of the required time for the Second Clasp and, having continued his long and diligent service to the people of Australia, is now presented with the Second Clasp to the National Medal.
