Pumping from Static Water Tank Supply (24/02/2022)

Members of the brigade undertook a pumping exercise, for weekly training this evening, from a private static water supply. Buxton has had a surge of new residential builds in recent years which are required to install a minimum of 10,000 lt of static water; this is despite the existence of 800kpa in the town mains.

Many of the tanks have been located where a fire appliance can be connected directly to the water tank. However, a few have availed themselves of the option of installing the water tank in a remote location and providing a standpipe connection at the front of the property. This evening's exercis was to demonstrate the pro's and con's of drawing water from the standpipe using canvas (soft) hose verses suction (hard) hose. Members got to revisit their previous theory training on firefighting hydraulics and put it into practice.

The brigade is currently looking for new members. If you own a property or reside in or around Buxton we would love to talk to you about becoming an operational firefighter.
