Good Friday Appeal (15/04/2022)
As with previous Good Friday mornings, members of Buxton and Marysville fire brigades and the Marysville SES were out and about in the Triangle area collecting for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal in 2022. As always, the Brigade expresses our gratitude to Sue Gleeson and her team at Marysville for co-ordinating the appeal in the Triangle again this year; a massive effort by any measure.
Starting around 10:00am in the morning, a small but grand band of brigade members joined together to help with the appeal. Our members worked their way around the township and outlying areas. Buxton Tanker 2 visited properties along the Maroondah Highway from Williams Lane to Normans Road as well as along the Buxton-Marysville Road down to the Steavenson River bridge near Retreat Road. A crew in the Alexandra Group FCV travelled around the north and east side of the town while other members walked the Mareeba Avenue, Dyes Lane and Aroonda Drive areas. Unfortunately, our traditional group photo was a little blurry this year... thanks to Brian, Joffa, Graham, Carmel, Jenny, John, Paul F, Steve, Phil and Paul D for helping with our part of this year’s RCH collection.
Thanks to the generosity of locals and visitors alike the total collected this year was initially estimated at $6,475.47 which was verified at a slightly higher figure once the funds were banked. Based on the initial count, Marysville CFA collected $3,681.65 in and around the Marysville township and Marysville SES collected $505.85 in and around Narbethong. Buxton CFA collected $2,287.97 which included a single household donation of $211.05 (in the form of a very large bag of coins) and was well up on last year's figure of $1,907.
Thanks to all who collected and donated across the Triangle this year. If we missed you and you want to donate, there are collection tins located at various bussiness outlets in both Marysville and Buxton.
Buxton Businesses support Good Friday Appeal: In addition to the door knock, the Brigade collects the donation tins located at all the business outlets in the township and changes them over for new tins. This year the total was only $268.95 which is well down on past years and probably a reflection of Covid and the move to a cashless society. Our thanks to Buxton Hotel, Igloo Roadhouse, Shell Garage and Post Office, Buxton Trout and Salmon Farm, and Buxton Bait and Tackle for hosting collection tins.
