Multi Agency response to Caravan Fire (11/01/2022)

Around 9:50am this morning local brigades, ambulance and police where responded to a reported caravan fire on a farm property in Narbethong.

Buxton, Marysville, Narbethong and Taggerty brigades responded with the Marysville ambulance and Marysville police also attending. Unfortunately, the fire had taken hold very fast and the van was well alight when the first appliance arrived. The area was experiencing heavy rain and lightning at the time.

Marysville Captain took control as Incident Controller with Structural qualified members from Marysville and Buxton utilising Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus to extinguish the fire in the caravan. The fire spread to a nearby tree and silage bales which were dealt with by the responding crews. The residents on the property were able to advise the 000 call-taker that the caravan was not occupied when they first first noticed the fire; they assisted the Incident Controller with their knowledge of the caravan.

The ambulance crews assessed the CABA operators once the fire was sufficiently extinguished to enable members without CABA to take over from those members. Despite the rain, the ambient temperature was high and it was tough work for the CABA crew.
