Community Christmas Decorations go up again (01/12/2021)

Despite the sudden onset of some fairly wild weather this evening, as part of our weekly training a number of our members joined with the Buxton Progress Association to erect the Community Christmas Decorations in the Buxton Recreation Reserve.

Once the initial storm had passed we decided to push on and make a start; just to have the pagers go off for a fire call in Marysville. While the operational members bolted over to the station, the others headed up to the Buxton Memorial Hall to collect the decorations. Fortunately the call to Marysville was a false alarm and everyone joined up at the hall to get the panels loaded.

With a brilliant sunset and storm clouds over the Black Range as a backdrop, as well as the occasional clap of thunder and lightning, the Santa's Train and Santa's Sled went up in their traditional locations. The Christmas Tree will be put in place on the Marysville Road hill over the next couple of days. Lights will be put in place over the weekend.

Our thanks again to Foundation Murrindindi for their support, last year, with funding of the new light weight decorations. There was a lot of praise this evening for former Buxton resident Martin Kok for his work in designing and fabrication of the new panels; so much easier to handle, position and secure in place.
