Santa Run (2021)
Once again, on Christmas Eve, the brigade undertook its annual Santa Run around the Buxton township. Despite the realities of Covid and some hesitancy still in the community, Santa was greeted by 105 adults and 70 children along with 10 dogs of various breeds and size; overall around the same numbers as 2020.
For the second time we ventured down Waters Place because of the number of houses in that part of the Waters Estate now. Next year we will probably add in Windsor Court, off Dyes Lane, which has a number of new houses under construction - we most definitely have a growing town.
We gave out nearly 50 fire safety information packs and over 60 smoke alarms. Naturally, the children got a Covid-Safe pack of sweets. The info packs included some activities for the young and, very importantly, fire safety information on Home Fire Safety, Seasonal Forecast and BBQ Safety.
Once again, we received a range of gifts and donations to the brigade. While these are not asked for nor expected, they are very much appreciated.
As with 2020, 2021 has been a difficult year for everyone with on-going Covid activity and we felt it was important to the brigade members that we conduct our Santa Run again this year. As with last year, it took a little more planning than normal so that it was conducted in a Covid-Safe way; thanks again to everyone for social distancing from other families. A special thanks to the group of ladies who packed the sweets and fire safety information packs during one of the working bees for the annual Buxton Community Christmas Party; a fantastic effort. Thanks must go to Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule and to his helpers: Jenny, Phil, Brian, Graham and Paul.
The Officers and members of Buxton Fire Brigade wish everyone, whether you reside in or around Buxton or are simply friends of the brigade, a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year for 2022.
